We opted for this fridge 5 years ago when our last fridge kicked because it™€™s basic model seemed to be good for making sure that it would last a long time since we just wanted a fridge that keeps things cold and a freezer that keeps things frozen. Now we™€™re dealing with a freezer that is dead and a fridge that won™€™t hold temp below 50 degrees so what gives??? How is it that we can™€™t have a fridge that actually does its job anymore???? My college mini fridge is 20 years old and still works but this expensive fridge fails after 5 years???

This refrigerator replaced a 13 year old GE Profile that decided to not cool any more. The new Ge fit the hole precisely which was critical. The only thing that we miss on the new one was the 4" tray that ran the length and was attached to the bottom freezer door. We used it to store small items that we use frequently. Now we have to search for them. We miss that on the new one. We love the fingerprint resistance . Much better. The interior lighting is improved. The deeper door shelves on the door are very nice. If it lasts 13 more years there will be no complaints...other than the non existent freezer door tray

Large capacity, simplicity, tried and true tech...

This model is all about capacity and simplicity and the compressor is a older reliable technology, a reciprocating compressor with pros and cons. The storage room of this refrigerator is probably its best selling feature with great lighting and shelves that can be moved and shifted around to fit your needs. I have always preferred freezer based ice makers basically because they are less prone to issues and failure in fact my last refrigertor (15 years old) had a freezer based ice maker and nothing was ever repaired or needed replacement with it. The storage in the freezer even with the ice maker inside was more than plenty in my household and we cook and eat a lot at home so we do load it up without compromising its ability to properly cool. The tried and true reciprocating compressor is very reliable and has been around for a long time with its only cons being slightly less energy efficient than today's inverter or linear compressors which have higher rates of failure within 5 years of ownership, and I will admit its slightly louder than my last fridge which was an inverter type but when my last fridge was in catch up mode which an inverter type compressor has variable speed and reciprocating is fixed speed, they were about the same in terms of sound while operating but the inverter type was quieter 70 percent of the time. The louder compressor isn't changing my rating on this fridge because I only notice it when I bring my ears near the appliance on either side of its cabinet, it doesn't vibrate the floor, but you can hear it when very close to the appliance. Overall I'm happy with the unit and it does meet my needs but only time will tell in terms of longevity. Unit was installed December of 2025 and is model GNE29GYNIFS which is their latest revision.

Bought this refrigerator 3 years ago and it completely quit working. Of course I didn't buy the extended warranty.....so now this $2,000+ refrigerator is just trash! You would think these big companies would stand behind their products for more than just "1" lousy year! It doesn't pay to buy high end appliances. I will now buy the cheapest thing I can find. It will probably last longer! Completely and utterly disappointed! I had a tech come out to diagnose it..all of the coolant leaked out. It cost me $119.00 for the tech and it's going to cost me another $375.00 for the coolant. I'm debating if I want to spend $494.00 on a 3 year old refrigerator that will most likely continue to have problems.

Cheap Hardawar Door Mullion Will Not Close

Over all its a dissent refrigerator the hardware is cheaply made like the door shelfs will creak after time the most annoying part is the Door Mullion stopped closing (it does not engage in track on top just passes by tried lifting the Mullion will help for once but keeps on sliding down) after a couple a months, leaving the gap between the doors open, after asking around and searching on line i noticed that this problem has been around for years and GE did nothing to address it, so be aware when buying as there is no fix for it. And GE will not accept any responsibility.

The fridge itself looks nice and the finish is good. Doesn™€™t get lots of spots like some stainless appliances. But it makes an almost constant buzzing sound that is VERY annoying. So disappointed in this. I had an LG that died after just six years due to their faulty compressors and won™€™t ever buy another LG. I had hoped the GE was going to be quiet like the LG was but it™€™s not. Oh well. No one seems to make good appliances anymore.

Not to mention these can only be serviced by a technician and after the short 1 year coverage warranty it will be your responsibility to cover this! Don't buy! This refrigerator stopped working after 24 months. I hired two different repairmen and got the same diagnosis. Diagnostics couldn't detect a problem and both men said it's probably a leak in the coolant line that would be very costly and possibly impossible to repair. Had to move this frig to our garage and now use it as a VERY expense cabinet for tools. Warranty is only for 1 year.

Too much humidity

Bought this about five months ago. Within a month had high moisture/humidity levels throughout including crisper drawers. Food spoiled in days. Had two service calls from the store technician and four from GE authorized technicians. They said there was nothing wrong, but yet ordered and installed several parts and wouldn™€™t allow the store tech to replace the gaskets. The store eventually replaced the gaskets and we still have a problem. We sent pictures of a thermometer we put in refrigerator over several day period with humidity levels to the store to forward to their GE rep. No response. The humidity levels ranged from 65 to 85% and the temperature fluctuates from 37 to 45. Don™€™t recommend this model,

Beware of Purchasing this GE Refrigerator Unit

The Unit Freezer Unit failed after 3 months. The Evaporator Unit, valves, and other Components need to be replaced. This is also impacting the refrigerator Temperature. The Repair Tech recommended that I demand a replacement Unit from GE or the Local Company that sold the unit to me - Saying - once this 3-hour major repair is done in the field - you can expect more issues to occur. And even if you get the repair done, the soonest we can schedule you is 26 days from now - So beware of the New GE Service Company as well.

We are very happy with our fridge so far (about a month)! The only issue we had was figuring out how to get it to display the actual fridge temp rather than the set/target temp. Most of all I'm very happy to have been able to buy a model that was constructed here in the USA! Our delivery included a letter from the team in Kentucky with specific people to contact if there were any issues. I'm glad to see they stand behind their product!

This fridge broke after 4 months. Freezer stopped working. I have had 5 visits over 6 weeks and it is still not working. Now the fridge portion is not cooling as well. We have had the compressor, main board (twice) and three way evaporator valve replaced. Why was I not given a new product instead of doing all these repairs and breaking the closed system when the product is less than 5 months old? Why did I have to wait 2-3 days between each repair? Why do I have to wait for the parts to arrive before scheduling the repair? Apparently it is more convenient for GE to make a customer wait than to reschedule an appointment because the parts did not arrive. Why am I lied to by the tech says things can't be expedited and customer relations when they way they are expediting things? Why am I lied to an told a lead tech I have personally requested will be on the service call and even wait 20 minutes on the line for it to be confirmed, only to have another tech arrive? Even escalating the problem with customer relations brings no resolution, which is not surprising seeing that it was proven on the call the the "supervisor" (#2405234) was not even listening to me. She told the tech she did not know he was there though I had told her that just 5 minutes prior. Then she get surly and defensive and refuses to connect me with her supervisor. So it is not a question on whether the product is reliable-it is not, but if the service is this bad, where they make you wait, miss 5 DAYS OF WORK, lie to you, do everything possible not to do the right thing and replace the product, and even the supervisors are rude and unhelpful, how can you chose to buy anything from this company? After they take your money they care nothing about you. I will NEVER buy GE again (and I just bought 2 products in the last 6 months). Ge/Bodewell will write a response saying they want me to get the assistance I need, but it is just lip service. It will just be another unhelpful rep from their horrible customer relations department. I would like to be proven wrong, but I don't think it is even possible because if it takes this much effort to persuade them to do the right thing, it is not a winning proposition to rely on their service. Run away from GE, you will not regret it.

I have had this for 4 months and the evaporator valve is malfunctioning due to the circuit board giving it faulty instruction (according to the tech). This has caused the freezer to stop freezing and I lost a bunch of food. Unfortunately, this happened on Memorial Day weekend, and I had to 4 days (3 business days) for a technician to arrive. I then had to wait 4-5 business days for the circuit board to be shipped because apparently, even though I paid over $2K for this fridge, GE won't pay to have it shipped express. Now I have been calling and texting the tech for 2 days to find out when I can get this installed and he is unresponsive. I cannot get help from GE because they think it wise to not offer support on the weekends and when you call on the weekdays, hold times are over 30 minutes. This is not even to mention that the ice maker never worked correctly, and you often have to break the ice apart because the rows of ice free together; and the horrible plastic you are left with at every edge because they put on the plastic prior to installing the finish pieces. This same problem occurred with both models of this fridge I have had, as the first one arrived with scratches, and I had it for 3 months while Best Buy got another one in. poor craftsmanship and longevity

I'm not someone who enjoys writing a negative review but this fridge clearly lacks the quality craftsmanship this large company once had. We bought this fridge almost 5 years ago to the day and today I was told (after being charged $145 by a GE technician, who was actually very nice) that this fridge is significantly broken and would cost north of $1800 to fix. Theres an issue with coolant leaking, and basically all cooling components would need to be changed. Why would a major component fail other than either craftsmanship or the lack of quality materials used. Up until today I would have told you this is an excellent fridge. From the beautiful look, the lighting inside, and the spacing, this is exactly what my wife and I wanted in a fridge. That said I'm not even 5 years in on a $2400 fridge. Think about that. If you're trying to decide between what you think is a quality company that stands by their product more than one year (on an very expensive item) and that of a 30% cheaper competitor - that's what's going on in my head right now. Almost my entire house is GE including everything in my laundry room.

Great fridge, no frills very simple. Not sure if it's worth the cost but it's quiet. The doors have to be pushed with some force to lock in place. You can't just let the momentum of the door close itself. The lighting leaves some shadows

Very happy with this purchase. I miss having a water dispenser, but this particular GE model is made in America and had particularly good reviews (and hopefully longevity!). I like the lay out, the spaciousness, the brightness and the speed of the ice dispenser.

Short life Span

I don't like to be a negative person, but paid a pretty penny for this piece. It's been 3 years and the fridge just stop working. Although I do not have an extended warranty on the fridge, I still expect GE to be accommodating when it comes to fixing it and not charge me an arm and leg. 3 Years is clearly a ridiculous life span for the price of the fridge. I believe it's due to a lack of craftsmanship and defects in the pieces, but GE just says too bad. Last time I will shop GE. Don't recommend buying this ride/freezer or this brand.
